David is member of the Board of Directors of SMART Recovery USA, a nonprofit organization that offers (in person and virtual) group based peer support meetings for individuals with substance use disorders. 

David has been trained in the spirit, processes and core skills of Motivational Interviewing by William Miller, Stephen Rollnick, Terri Moyers, Chris Wagner, Karen Ingersoll, Ali Hall, Molly Magill and Bob Jope, among others.

As a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers, he is in a position to offer basic and advanced courses. This ranges from a popular two hour presentation entitled “What is MI?” (offered virtually and in-person) to day-long training. The day-long training courses include several practice opportunities.

David has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan and a law degree from Georgetown University.
